Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced that USDA is providing more than $100 million in loans to build or improve 1,000 miles of electric transmission and distribution lines for rural electric cooperative utilities in four states.

South Carolina's Santee Electric Cooperative, Inc. is receiving $54.8 million to build or improve 605 miles of line for residential and business customers. The loan also includes $3 million for storm damage restoration.

Today Congressman Duncan offered an amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill transferring $2.5M from the Department of Energy Departmental Administration account to the Army Corps of Engineers-Investigation. In 1965, the 89th Congress and President Lyndon Johnson produced landmark laws that made education more attainable, health care more affordable, voting more accessible, housing more available, immigration more equitable, and the environment cleaner. The results were dramatic. The poverty rate went down, and graduation rates went up. Citizen participation increased and our environment got cleaner. Our nation was reinvigorated by new immigrants, and the golden years of our senior citizens were enriched.

South Carolina REALTORS® (SCR) today released its March statewide housing market numbers revealing that inventory is expected to rise and homes sales increase. New Listings throughout the state were up around five percent to 8,772. Pending Sales increased 13.5 percent to 5,437 and Inventory shrank five percent to 39,320 units.
