South Carolina Realtor® Associations Donate More Than $210,000 in 2014
COLUMBIA, S.C. – March 18, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — In 2014, Realtor® associations across South Carolina donated more than $210,000 to charities and community organizations. A brief list of organizations that have benefitted from local Realtor® association involvement include:
Habitat for Humanity in Hilton Head, Columbia, Sumter, Charleston, Western Upstate, Aiken and Beaufort
United Way of the Lowcountry
Project Angel Wings in Western Upstate
The Greenville County School Care and Share Program
The Spartanburg Soup Kitchen
The Pee Dee, Columbia and Aiken Harvest Hope Food Banks
The Children’s Attention Home and School in Rock Hill
The Myrtle Beach American Cancer Society
Sumter County’s Emanuel Soup Kitchen
“Realtors® really care about their communities,” said Fritzi Barbour, 2015 President of the South Carolina Association of REALTORS®. “We don’t just sell homes, we are engaged in our communities which brings with it a higher quality of life for all of our citizens.”
In addition to financial support, Realtor® members invested thousands of hours of volunteer time to more than 70 different national and localized community organizations including family shelters, senior and children’s programs, animal welfare programs, schools, soup kitchens and military outlets.
“As Realtors®, we live, work, and are active citizens in our community and we understand the importance of raising a family in a home,” said Brenda Hanna, who served as the 2014 president for the Central Carolina Association of REALTORS®. “We set a goal to help our local Habitat for Humanity Chapter in Columbia and last year we were able to donate $50,000 to build a home for a deserving family.”
The Beaufort County Association of REALTORS®, Hilton Head Area Association of REALTORS®, Sumter Board, Charleston Trident Association, Western Upstate Association of REALTORS® and the Aiken Board of REALTORS® also donated to Habitat for Humanity builds in 2014.
And, Greenwood Parks and Trails benefited in more than $25,000 from the Greenwood Association of REALTORS® (GAR) for its walking trail at the Grace Street Park project. GAR also funded another $25,000 over the next ten years to assist in the maintenance of the walking trail.
“For the past two years, members have been completely dedicated to our REALTOR® Walking Trail at Grace Street Park. We helped create and are committed to maintaining the walking trail in the midst of this beautiful, publicly accessible, open space in Greenwood,” said Greenwood Association of REALTORS® Association Executive Kathryn West.
The Aiken Board of REALTORS® is on its second year of the House of Cans event food for Golden Harvest Food Bank. “We can’t put a monetary value on the amount of donations collected from Aiken Realtors®, but I can tell you it’s 1,727 pounds in food, and we’re pretty proud of that,” said Aiken Board of REALTORS® Executive Kristyne Shelton.
