North and South Carolina REALTORS® “ComeTogether” for annual conference & expo

COLUMBIA, S.C. – September 27, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — North and South Carolina REALTORS® (SCR) joint Annual Conference and Expo, ComeTogether, was a big success with more than 700 REALTORS® from across both states in attendance. The event was held at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center, September 9-11. Highlights of the conference are listed below. Photos and interviews are available upon request.

2013 President
Incoming SCR President, Alexander “Sandy” Stone III, of the Charleston Trident Association of REALTORS® was inducted by outgoing SCR President, Gordon Seay of the Greater Greenville Association of REALTORS®. Stone’s term as SCR President begins in November 2012.

2012 REALTOR® of the Year
Charleston REALTOR® Nell Postell was named SCR’s 2012 REALTOR® of the Year in a touching ceremony during the Opening General Session of the conference. Postell has been a leader in real estate for thirty years and currently practices at Carolina One Real Estate in Charleston, South Carolina. A video tribute to Postell is available via SCR’s YouTube channel.

Distinguished Service Award
Jeff Bowers has contributed more than 26 years of outstanding service to the real estate industry. Throughout that time he has been a past president of the South Carolina Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) Chapter, past president of Dorchester Habitat for Humanity and is one of Charleston’s top 10 real estate agents. Bowers is currently broker and owner at RE/MAX Pro Realty in Charleston and the 2012 recipient of SCR’s Distinguished Service Award.

Omega Tau Rho Medallion of Honor
Membership in this honorary fraternity is represented by the Medallion of Service which symbolizes the recognition and appreciation of accorded inductees for their contributions to the Nation Association of REALTORS® (NAR), its affiliated institutes, societies and councils. The 2012 Medallion was presented to Greater Greenville Association Executive, Nick Sabatine for his exemplary direction and guidance to REALTORS® throughout the Upstate.

C. Dan Joyner REALTOR® Community Service Award

Mt. Pleasant REALTOR® Mia Owens is the 2012 recipients of the C. Dan Joyner Community Service Award. Owens won the award for her work on Feed a Friend – a charity created to help feed the homeless and working poor. To-date Owens has served more than 2,000 people throughout the area. Winners of this award are also entered into the National Association of REALTORS®’ Good Neighbor Award contest.

James R. Peters Association Executive Award of Excellence
The James R. Peters Association Executive Award of Excellence is presented annually to an individual who has excelled in their role as an executive of a local South Carolina REALTOR® association. Peggy Hill, Association Executive of the Western Upstate Association of REALTORS® received the award for the countless hours she has dedicated to the local, state and national associations. Hill also devotes her time to many community groups including the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce, Anderson Rotary and the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

REALTOR® Advocate Award
The South Carolina REALTOR® Advocate Award is given annually to a member who demonstrates a constant effort and unwavering commitment as an advocate for the real estate industry. This year’s recipient, Greenwood REALTOR®, Jerry Spearman, has tirelessly served as a real estate advocate at the South Carolina Statehouse. Spearman truly recognizes the importance of taking an active role in advocacy and raising awareness of issues at the grassroots level.

W. Mack Chamblee Quality of Life Award
The South Carolina REALTORS® give the W. Mack Chamblee Quality of Life Award each year to members of the General Assembly who demonstrate themselves as leaders in promoting and protecting quality of life in South Carolina. The South Carolina REALTORS® awarded Senator Paul Campbell of Goose Creek and Speaker Bobby Harrell of Charleston with the 2012 W. Mack Chamblee Quality of Life Awards.

Education Sessions
ComeTogether offered many education sessions at the conference including courses on technology and popular real estate topics. The highlight of the education courses was a BarCamp style session in which the attendees were also instructors in breakout brainstorming sessions. Seasoned real estate veterans exchanged their valuable experiences with rookie tech-savvy REALTORS® in a meeting of the minds.
